PATERSON, GRANT & WATSON LIMITED: Data, Consulting, and On-site QA/QC, cont...
PGW employs several professionals in Toronto, Canada on a full-time basis: they include two principals (D. James Misener, Stephen Reford) and one senior geophysicist (Edna Mueller). In addition, it collaborates with the geophysical laboratory at McMaster University, employing professors, post-doctoral fellows, Ph.D. and M.Sc. students. The support staff includes digital cartography/CAD specialists, administrative and sales personnel, digitisers and software developers. PGW maintains offices in Europe and Brasil to facilitate projects for clients around the world: Tom Davitt established PGW Europe Ltd. in Ireland in 2000, to better serve our clients in the Middle East, Europe and Africa. Miguel Mane established PGW do Brasil Ltda., in 2002.
PGW also employs senior geophysicists and geologists on a consulting basis. For its remote sensing requirements, PGW has formed an alliance with Greg Lipton of EarthScan Ltd., who maintains an office in Canada (Mr. Lipton spent twenty years as the in-house remote sensing expert for BHP Minerals).
PGW primarily works with magnetic, radiometric, electromagnetic, gravity, electrical and induced polarization data, as well as incorporation of seismic data, satellite imagery and digital terrain models. At the processing level, we integrate the geophysical data with other datasets available in digital form (e.g. geology, topography, terrain, satellite, geochemistry, etc.). Similarly, interpretations are carried out on an integrated basis. In our interpretation studies, we are well versed in incorporating geology, geochemistry, seismic, drill log and well data (e.g. horizons, depths, physical properties) into our mapping, modelling and interpretation. PGW, PGW Europe and PGW do Brasil are currently active on projects throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
PGW employs a variety of commercial software extensively (Geosoft, ER Mapper, GM-SYS, Encom, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, MS Office), for databasing, scanning, imaging, compression, data processing, GIS, etc. It also utilises in-house programming skills for development of commercial software and data products. In the last decade, PGW has developed GXs for incorporation in Geosoft's OASIS montajTM that provide specialized capabilities for levelling, microlevelling, height correction, contact location and source parameter modelling for magnetic data. It is currently developing applications to take advantage of magnetic gradiometer data, and released a gradient enhanced gridding module in 2002. More recently, it developed a system for predictive targeting using neural networks in cooperation with the Canadian Space Agency. It maintains a state-of-the-art computing centre for its processing, interpretation, and cartography applications. Its geophysicists are equipped with high-end laptops and a full suite of
software for its training, in-field QA/QC and processing.
