Processing and Interpretation of the Red Lake Area for GOLDCORP INC.
|
Paterson, Grant and Watson Limited (PGW) are the consulting geophysicists for GOLDCORP INC. for the processing and interpretation of the airborne and ground geophysics in the Red Lake Area, Ontario, Canada. PGW has used airborne and ground magnetics, gravity, and airborne radiometrics, and with the assistance of Greg Lipton of EarthScan Ltd., DEMs, satellite imagery, and radar. The interpretation of the magnetics and radiometrics provided the geophysical signatures of recognizable geological features that control Au deposits in the Red Lake Area. These criteria are:
- Proximity to a major tectonic deformation zone
- Correlations with local scale shearing/faulting and alteration
- Proximity to an intrusive heat source
- Association with mafic to ultramafic rocks in contact with felsic volcanics or metasediments
Twenty-five target areas with high potential for gold mineralization have been identified and are being pursued RTP 1VD with detailed geophysical analysis/interpreation, geochemical sampling and drilling.

EarthScan Ltd. is a Canadian service company that processes, analyses, and interprets digital remote sensing data for geological mapping and mineral exploration programs worldwide. Data utilized is both spectral and radar and includes Landsat TM, Radarsat, SPOT, IRS, and Ikonos, as well as airborne hyperspectral and radar. Results from remote sensing processing are typically integrated with other information such as geophysics and GIS spatial data, like Digital Elevation Models (DEM), to improve the geologic interpretation.
Illustrated here are three examples of using shadow enhanced DEM data to augment the geologic structural interpretation of a region for a gold exploration program.
